Instructions to enable the interference effects in Rayleigh (coherent) scattering of x-ray photons After the normal installation of Geant4 (versions prior to 10.7): - Put the directory "MIFF" at the low energy data path: Geant4_installation_path/share/Geant4-VERSION/data/G4EMLOW_VERSION/penelope/rayleigh/ "MIFF" directory contains the molecular form factors that include the interference effect in X-ray coherent scattering for various materials of medical interest. - Copy the files contained in the directory "classes" inside the appropriate direcoris of a user application. - In the UserPhysicsList or in the main of the user application, call the "G4EmPenelopePhysicsMI" builder. In order to exploit the form factors contained inside the directory MIFF, the user has to label the materials used in its custom application with the appropriate name according to the following table: FORM FACTOR MATERIAL NAME DESCRIPTION FF_fat_Tartari2002 "Fat_MI" FF_water_Tartari2002 "Water_MI" FF_bonematrix_Tartari2002 "BoneMatrix_MI" FF_mineral_Tartari2002 "Mineral_MI" FF_adipose_Poletti2002 "adipose_MI" FF_glandular_Poletti2002 "glandular_MI" FF_human_breast_Peplow1998 "breast5050_MI" breast tissue: 50%fat+50%glandular FF_carcinoma_Kidane1999 "carcinoma_MI" FF_pork_muscle_Peplow1998 "muscle_MI" FF_pork_kidney_Peplow1998 "kidney_MI" FF_pork_liver_Peplow1998 "liver_MI" FF_pork_heart_Peplow1998 "heart_MI" FF_beef_blood_Peplow1998 "blood_MI" FF_gbrain_DeFelici2008 "grayMatter_MI" gray matter of brain FF_wbrain_DeFelici2008 "whiteMatter_MI" white matter of brain FF_bone_King2011 "bone_MI" FF_fat_Tartari2002_joint_lowXdata_ESRF2003 "FatLowX_MI" FF_bonematrix_Tartari2002_joint_lowXdata "BonematrixLowX_MI" FF_dryBone_Tartari2002_joint_lowXdata_ESRF2003 "dryBoneLowX_MI" FF_PMMA_Tartari2002_joint_lowXdata_ESRF2003 "PMMALowX_MI" FF_CIRS30-70_Poletti2002 "CIRS30-70_MI" FF_CIRS50-50_Poletti2002 "CIRS50-50_MI" FF_CIRS70-30_Poletti2002 "CIRS70-30_MI" FF_RMI454_Poletti2002 "RMI454_MI" FF_PMMA_Tartari2002 "PMMA_MI" FF_lexan_Peplow1998 "Lexan_MI" FF_kapton_Peplow1998 "Kapton_MI" FF_nylon_Kosanetzky1987 "Nylon_MI" FF_polyethylene_Kosanetzky1987 "Polyethylene_MI" FF_polystyrene_Kosanetzky1987 "Polystyrene_MI" FF_formaline_Peplow1998 "Formaline_MI" FF_acetone_Cozzini2010 "Acetone_MI" FF_Hperoxide_Cozzini2010 "Hperoxide_MI" generic tissue "MedMat_" + definition of comp[4] array which contains the mass fraction of the 4 basic materials: (fat, water, bone matrix, hydroxyapatite).
