In order to better understand the context and the data chain, in which the automatic on- and off-line GRB alert procedures (that is the central topic of this thesis, see later chapters) have been inserted and made operative, a description of the Ground Support System (GSS) is given in this section.

Then, a brief description of how the GRBM data are finally stored and organized, follows.

Eventually, the software packages that can be used to work with the GRBM data, both the standard ones developed before and at the early beginning of the mission and the one developed by the author of this work, are presented.
