Reaching Ferrara

by car: Ferrara can be easily reached by car, the closest tollway is the A13 Bologna-Padova. However most part of the historical city center is a limited access zone. There are some parking areas outside the center, but some hotels offer a parking permit to their customer. Be sure to ask when booking your reservation.

by train: Ferrara is located on the railway between Bologna and Padova/Venice and is served daily by several regional, Intercity and Eurostar trains. Timetables and fare information can be found here.

by plane: the closest airport is the Guglielmo Marconi airport in Bologna. It is about 40 km far from Ferrara city center. The Bologna airport is served by all major European companies and linked to London, Paris, Lyon, Munich, Madrid, Frankfurt, Brussels, Barcelona, Amsterdam. This should be the best choice if you want to get to Ferrara by plane. If you land somewhere else, you can still find good connections between Ferrara and the Marco Polo airport in Venice, which is 110 km far from Ferrara.
NOTE: It is not recommended to land at the Malpensa airport in Milan or at Leonardo da Vinci airport in Rome. Even though they are well connected with the rest of Europe, it will take 4-5 hours to get to Ferrara. If you can not find a suitable plane neither to Bologna nor to Venice, the third choice could be the Valerio Catullo airport in Verona.
Also note that Flybaboo offers direct connections from Geneva to Venice/Florence. You can reach Ferrara from these two airports in a reasonable travel time.

Moving in Ferrara

The historical center of Ferrara is a limited access zone, so it is not recommended to use the car to move around. Some seasonal restriction are in place also outside the central zone for older cars (euro 1, 2 and 3). However several hotels are within walking distance from the conference location. For information about public transportation please visit this site.

Meeting Location:

The meeting will take place at the IUSS, in via Scienze n. 41/b, in the historical downtown of Ferrara.
